Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages (GAFL), recognized as a leading model for public IB education in Korea, announced on the 3rd that it successfully concluded the 2025 GAFL IB English Summer Camp. Held from July 23 (Wednesday) to August 1 (Friday), the 9-night, 10-day camp was highly praised by both students and parents for faithfully reflecting the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate (IB) and for providing a deeply engaging learning experience.
With the goal of giving back to the local community, GAFL(Chairman Kang Young-joong) has hosted the IB English Camp annually, offering high-quality English education experiences to elementary and middle school students. In 2025, the school signed an additional partnership with Hwaseong-si, expanding upon its existing agreements with Uiwang and Osan. A total of 270 students participated in this year’s camp, including 150 recommended through the three city partnerships and 120 recruited nationwide.
To ensure that participants could experience the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate (IB) through English education, GAFL partnered with Daekyo, a leading educational company in Korea, to develop customized textbooks and learning content specifically for the camp. The program’s primary goal extended beyond language acquisition—it aimed to help students broaden their self-expression and build meaningful connections with the world around them.
This year’s camp featured a variety of IB-style English lessons taught by native-speaking instructors, covering topics such as literature, history, economics, science, and culture. In addition, programs designed to enhance presentation skills, critical thinking, career reflection, and self-expression were offered. In particular, classes and projects incorporating the IB Learner Profile encouraged students to develop not only their linguistic abilities but also the attributes of Communicators, Reflective thinkers, and Risk-takers.
Participants shared highly positive feedback, saying, “I gained much more confidence in English and enjoyed the opportunity to reflect on myself through various activities,” and “I would love to join the camp again in the future.” Many expressed excitement and anticipation for next year’s program.

Principal Yuk Kwang-hee of GAFL stated, “As a leading foreign language high school representing Gyeonggi Province, we will continue to design creative and insightful student-centered programs, fulfill our educational mission with excellence, and expand partnerships to build a regionally rooted global talent development platform.”
The camp not only improved students’ English proficiency but also provided valuable opportunities for them to grow as future global leaders. GAFL plans to continue collaborating with local communities to offer more students access to such transformative educational experiences.
