[Veritas Alpha=Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] While many foreign language high schools and domestic high schools have recently been eager to operate IB curriculum programs, the 'IB pioneer' is distinctly different. This is the story of Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages, which introduced the IB program in 2011 as the first high school in Korea and established itself as a 'public education IB role model.' As of the 2025 academic year, the school produced 70 overseas university acceptances (including duplicates), demonstrating unparalleled performance among the nation's 28 foreign language high schools. The gap is significant even when compared to Daewon Foreign Language High School in second place with 12 acceptances. Even when expanding the scope to include all high school types such as specialized/autonomous schools and general high schools, it ranks among the top nationwide. These results were achieved with only 32 students applying to overseas universities, clearly demonstrating the strength of Gyeonggi Academy's IB education. From 2023 to 2025, 88% of overseas university applicants were admitted to prestigious universities ranked within the world's top 100, securing quality as well. This is why it's not unusual to see cases of other schools benchmarking Gyeonggi Academy's IB program.
The school is not only notable for its overseas university admissions based on the IB program. Its excellent domestic university admissions results under a solid student record-based admissions system are also factors that solidify students' enrollment decisions. The coexistence of the domestic curriculum and IB means that both tracks of the dual-track admissions system are competitive. Admissions results prove that Gyeonggi Academy's educational excellence alone provides sufficient competitiveness in any admissions process, whether domestic or overseas. The school has consistently produced Seoul National University acceptances with trends of 10 students (7 early decision/3 regular) in 2023, 13 students (11/2) in 2024, and 12 students (6/6) in 2025. In foreign language high school admissions that culminate at Seoul National University, the school produces SNU acceptances every year, and when expanded to SKY universities, approximately 70 students are accepted annually. Particularly noteworthy is that, unlike other foreign language high schools, the school operates separate domestic and overseas tracks, meaning the domestic university applicant pool is a small group of around 140 students, making these results even more impressive. The ratio of Seoul National University acceptances relative to domestic university applicants is among the highest among foreign language high schools.
