Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages was the first among foreign language high schools in Korea to adopt IBDP(International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme). Along with the world-wide attention to IB program, Japanese government’s initiative in carrying out educational reforms is grounded in IB program.

The 5th principal of Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages, Byong-Ho Lee, emphasized that the current education system fails to prepare students for the fourth industrial revolution in that it focuses heavily on rote learning at the expense of cultivating creativity and critical thinking that underlies an interdisciplinary learning.

He also added that Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages has adopted a selective curriculum regardless of the two different curriculum tracks such as liberal arts and natural science to offer a broader spectrum of courses to ensure that students experience their fields of interests.

Currently, Gyeonggi Academy offers one IB class per grade where all courses are taught completely in English except for Korean language class, and teachers have freedom to opt for teaching subjects and curriculum contents within the IBO curriculum policy. From this wide range of classes, students are able to select the ones they need and compile their own timetable.
