Zelkova is a tree of great strength, bountiful leaves and long lifespan, symbolizing eternal
development in the Korean culture. widely seen anywhere on the Korean peninsula and sustaining
even at the height of 1,200m, Zelkova tree represents the firm spirit, wise thoughts and growth
of the students at Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages. It also embodies the belief that the
students will grow to provide support for humankind.
Camellia FlowerStrength and Modesty
Camellia tree is an evergreen tree, its flowers blooming among its green leaves. With its green
leaves, vibrant red petals, and stamens, Camilia flower blossoms from December to April, a good
representation of its strength. The flower also represents modest. These serve as a
representation of the polite and modesty charater of the students at Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign
Languages.
Phoenix (Bong Hwang)a benevolent and wise king
Bong Hwang is a mythical creature widely regarded as the king of all birds. In its name,
‘bong’ represents the male and ‘hwang’ represents the female of the
creature. Bong Hwang is thought to have the best features of ten different animals. It is for
this reason, the bird is also recognized as the symbol of a benevolent, wise emperor. As a
school mascot, bong hwang bears the aspiration for the students to grow up to be wise leaders of
the world.
Authority Mark
Phoenix, book and the bay leaves symbolize the world and the latin phrase “Officium et
Creatio” translates to service and creation. The bay leaves and the bong hwang represent
victory and the aspiration for the students to become the leaders of their generation. The bong
hwang sitting on top of the globe also embodies the wish for the students to think of the world.
The mark as a whole encourages the students to study hard, work hard and become the best in
their own field, contributing to the world and society
The logo is the eye of the bong hwang from the school emblem. It is a symbolic representation of
the new set of perspectives that students will gain through the learning opportunities they
encounter during their time at Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages. The bong hwang in the
emblem is staring into the distance. In this sense, its eye is that of looking at the world,
looking at the future and seeking the truth.
