GAFL 7 Certification System

  • 1) Purpose of Operation: GAFL covers seven educational activities besides its academic program in order to implement GAFL¡¯s goal of education - ¡®to nurture creative global leaders who serve the world¡¯, the core elements of education ¡®moral education¡¯, ¡®education for gifted children¡¯, ¡®education for critical thinking¡¯ and education for globalization.¡¯

      • ¨ç Content
        • A. Global Vision Tour(GVT): While residing overseas for a certain period of time, students provide volunteer services, education and perform in activities for the local communities. GVT is held during summer vacation for the 1st grade students. In special circumstances or students who transfer to 1st grade at GAFLL after semester 2, GVT can be replaced by another relevant international voluntary service.
        • B. Community Service: Students will provide a labor service, educational service and perform activities around the local Gunpo and Uiwang city areas located.
        • C. Selective Voluntary Service: Students perform individual voluntary service in a region of their choice. Volunteer activities at school are also included.
      • ¨è Standards of Completion
        • A. Period of Activity: From semester 1 of the 1st grade to the date set by 7 Certification during semester 5
        • B. Certification Standard: Students who have completed the mandatory GVT and 60 hours (minimum) of voluntary service
      • ¡Ø If students wish to replace GVT with voluntary service for multi-cultural families, those who are enrolled in semester 1 of the 1st grade have to complete 40 hours of international voluntary service within the GVT period, and those who transfer to GAFLL after semester 1 of 1st grade have to complete 20 hours of voluntary service.
      • ¡Ø Required voluntary service hours for transfer students: 50 hours for those who transferred to semester 2 of the 1st grade; 40 hours for those who transferred to 2nd grade semester 1; 30 hours for those who transferred to 2nd grade semester 2.

        • A. Only the contents specified for voluntary service in transcripts based on the period of activity will be evaluated.
        • B. Acceptance or rejection of students¡¯ completion of voluntary service will be decided through the final confirmation of the 3rd year homeroom teachers and the person in charge of 7 certification.

      • ¨ç Content: Certified if students have no record of having a community service penalty imposed at school
      • ¨è Standards of Completion
        • A. Period: From semester 1 of the 1st grade to the date set by 7 Certification during semester 5
        • B. Certification Standard: Students¡¯ penalty status
      • ¨é Evaluation:
        • A. Acceptance or rejection of students¡¯ completion will be decided after the final confirmation of students¡¯ penalty record from the 1st grade to the 3rd grade by the teacher in charge from the Student Supporting Department.

      • ¨ç Content: Students are required to complete physical education and art courses established by The Holistic Education Department
      • ¨è Standards of Completion
        • A. Period: Required to complete during semester 1 and 2 of the 1st grade

          Students who transfer to GAFL before the second year are allowed to take SA class through the 2nd grade ASG

        • B. Certification Standard: Students have to complete the relevant course, and cannot be absent from the course more than twice.
      • ¨é Evaluation
        • A. Person in charge of ASG duty from Management Support Team will confirm students¡¯ completion of the relevant course.
        • B. Acceptance or rejection of students¡¯ completion will be decided through the final confirmation of the person in charge of 7 Certification from the 3rd Grade Department.
    • ©ê Integrated Reading (IR)
      • ¨ç Content: Based on the recommended books suggested by the seven subject departments and the departments of every grade, students are required to be involved in in-depth reading activities, and write ¡®GAFL¡¯s reading activity record.¡¯
      • ¨è Standards of Completion
        • A. Period: Required to complete between the 1st grade and the 2nd grade (semester 4). Allowed to accomplish selectively until the end semester 1 of the 3rd grade
        • Standards of Completion
          • I. Required to read four books (minimum) every semester and write book review
          • II. Must include at least one book related to students¡¯ major language
      • ¨é Evaluation
        • A. 1st , 2nd , 3rd grade homeroom teachers or teaching assistants (once a month) and the person in charge from departments of every grade will inspect students¡¯ book reviews.
        • B. Acceptance or rejection of completion will be decided through the final confirmation from the person in charge of 7 Certification from the 3rd grade department.
        • C. Outstanding book reviews will be selected, and those students will be awarded with different prizes at the end of semesters.

      • ¨ç Content: Required to be affiliated with to a club and be actively involved
      • ¨è Standards of Completion
        • A. Period: From semester 1 of the 1st grade to the date set by 7 Certification during semester 5
        • B. Certification Standard: Required to fulfill a certain amount of hours for every grade
      • ¨é Evaluation
        • A. Total number of hours for club activities recorded in Creative Activities criteria of transcripts will be verified.
        • B. Acceptance or rejection of completion will be decided through the final confirmation from teachers in charge of every club and the person in charge of 7 Certification of the 3rd Grade Department.
    • ©ì Research Work (RW)
      • ¨ç Content: Students select a research topic as a group or individually, and carry out self-directed in-depth learning and research. Students are required to submit their research plans and are supervised with their essays according to a specified schedule. Students are also required to participate in a symposium at the end of the year by submitting their research papers in accordance with essay format to the teachers in charge by deadline.
      • ¨è Standards of Completion
        • A. Period: Only the research papers that were written during semester 1 and 2 of the 2nd grade will be examined.
        • B. Certification Standard: Students are required to complete and submit their papers according to a specified schedule.
      • ¨é Evaluation
        • A. Person in charge from the grade department of the relevant year will confirm the submission of students¡¯ research papers.
        • B. Acceptance or rejection of students¡¯ completion will be decided through the final confirmation of the teacher in charge of research papers and the person in charge of 7 Certification from the 3rd grade department
        • C. Outstanding papers will be selected, with opportunities to attend a conference will be provided to those students

      • ¨ç Content: Students are required to achieve results over a certain level in English, major language, Korean and AP, and submit documentary evidence such as report cards
        • A. Period: From semester 1 of the 1st grade to the date set by 7 Certification during semester 5
      • ¨è Standards of Completion
        • I. English Language Competency: Minimum of TEPS score 800 or TOEFL iBT score 100
        • II. Majoring Language: Minimum of HSK Level 4 or JLPT Level 3
        • III. Korean: Minimum of ToKL Level 3 or Test of Proficiency in Korean Level S for Youth / Level 3 for Adult
        • IV. AP: Minimum score of 4 from two subjects
        • * Students are required to submit documentary evidence for two or more categories from the above I. ~ IV.
      • ¨é Evaluation
        • A. Homeroom teachers will confirm students¡¯ submission.
        • B. Acceptance or rejection of students¡¯ completion will be decided through the final confirmation of homeroom teachers and the person in charge of 7 Certification from the 3rd Grade Department
        • * For second foreign language other than Japanese and Chinese, an in-depth discussion is needed.
  • 4) Presentation of Certification
    • ¨ç Classification: Gold (Qualified in seven criteria), Silver (Qualified in six criteria) and Bronze (Qualified in five criteria)
    • ¨è Period of Presentation: Comprehensive assessment for students¡¯ performance until a specified date of the 3rd grade (June) will be conducted, and certification will be presented at the end of semester 1 of the 3rd grade, supervised by the Curriculum Operating Department
    • ¨é Awards and Evaluation: Medals will be awarded, and the data will be reported in transcripts
