Both SAT(Scholastic Aptitude Test) and ACT(American College Testing) are required standardized tests for university admissions in the U.S. They examine students’ scholastic aptitude based on core curriculum. SAT and ACT are supervised by the College Board and ACT Inc.
There are differences in test subjects and evaluation methods between the two.
However, both tests are recognized standards for evaluating students’ ability at highly ranked universities in the US.

Features of SAT

SAT is divided in to SAT I (Reasoning Test) and SAT II (Subject Test). SAT I is scholastic aptitude test which is essentially required from universities, and SAT II is the selective part which includes diverse subjects, and maybe required based one’s major in university.

  • SAT I : Perfect score is 2400 (800 for each subject - Critical Reading, Math, Writing). The test is held 6 times a year (in January, May, June, October, November and December). Students cannot write their SAT I and SAT II on the same month.
  • SAT II : 800 per a subject

Features of ACT

ACT includes English, Mathematics, Reading, Science. Unlike SAT , ACT is examined at once. Students can apply for Writing Test individually. In Korea, ACT is held 5 times a year (in February, April, June, October and December), and Writing Test is held 4 times a year (in April, June, October and December).
